Time, Labor and Absence Management (TLAM)

Arts and Sciences has adopted the university’s Time, Labor and Absence Management System  (TLAM) to streamline the management of absence requests and timesheet submissions for all officers, union, non-union support, and casual employees. The TLAM module is integrated within PAC, enabling officers of administration to submit time-off requests and allowing union, non-union support, and casual employees to submit all timesheets electronically for timely processing. Paper timesheets and time-off trackers are no longer required. Through TLAM, employees can:

  • Submit timesheets for all hourly employees that will automatically route to Payroll for timely processing.
  • Submit absence requests.
  • Accurately track and forecast vacation, personal, and sick time balances.
  • Managers can view and track their team’s time off calendar.

Absence | Timesheet Submission & Approval

  • Request Absence: Submit requests for vacation, sick, or personal time off. All requests require managerial approval and will automatically route to your manager via the workflow upon submission.

  • Absence Forecasting Tool: Plan ahead by using this tool to forecast future vacation and personal day absences, ensuring you have sufficient accrued time to cover your requests.

  • Additional Absence Balance View: When submitting a vacation or personal day request, you will see three balance amounts displayed. Projected balances are highlighted in red, it indicate you are requesting more time than you have accrued..

    • Current Balance: Displays the balance as of the most recent date an absence was finalized for the employee (the specific date is displayed).

    • Balance through this request: Displays the balance as of the requested date, including any submitted or approved absences associated with the current request.

    • Balance at 06/30/YEAR: Displays the projected balance through the end of the fiscal year.

  • Support Staff: You are required to submit biweekly timesheets that accurately reflect the hours you worked, as well as record vacation, holidays, and absences. Your manager will review and approve timesheets electronically, eliminating the need for paper submissions.

  • Casual Employees & VHOs: You must submit timesheets accurately reflecting your hours worked before each payroll deadline. Your manager will review and approve timesheets electronically, eliminating the need for paper submissions. Please note that failure to submit timesheets on time will result in delays in payment.

  • Managers have the ability to electronically review, approve, or deny absence requests and/or timesheets.

  • Timesheets must be approved bi-weekly in accordance with the deadlines outlined in the university’s payroll calendar.

  • Faculty supervising Columbia Research Assistants (RAs) can review, approve, or deny timesheets electronically. To delegate this responsibility to an administrator, please get in touch with your department's Director of Academic Administration (DAAF).
